The Grail Quest in the Edo Era
In Fate/Samurai Remnant, the epic of the Holy Grail War continues in the fourth year of the Keian era, during Japan’s Edo period. Throughout the Fate franchise, pairs of Masters and heroic spirits, also known as Servants, have battled across history in a series of Holy Grail Wars, with the winning duo receiving an ancient artifact that grants wishes.
The game places you in the midst of the battle between seven pairs of Masters and Servants. The game’s hero, Miyamoto Iori, an adopted son of the legendary Miyamoto Musashi, finds himself caught in the turmoil alongside Saber. They struggle to be the last pair remaining to receive the « Waxing Moon Vessel. » The story also delves deep into their profound relationship, enriched by hand-drawn illustrations and captivating narration exploring Japanese legends and myths.
Dynamic Battles and RPG
Omega Force is renowned for its expertise in the Musou genre. Therefore, Fate/Samurai Remnant benefits from intense and massive combat typical of the genre, along with some RPG elements. The core gameplay revolves around Musou confrontations where players, embodying Miyamoto Iori, unleash area attacks and devastating combos to repel waves of enemies.
Cooperation with the Servants is the essential and differentiating mechanic of the game. It allows players to command or take control of powerful Servants to execute impressive magical techniques. The battle scenes between Servants are particularly spectacular and highlight the game’s intense action. Note that other masterless servants will assist you in your journey. Each has specific abilities, allowing for varied enjoyment.
Exploration and Interaction in Edo
In addition to its dynamic combats, the game offers exploration of the city of Edo and numerous interactions with various characters and environments. Players can follow the main story but also take on numerous challenges and uncover the city’s secrets. It gives it a bit of a Yakuza vibe with a pace that can sometimes seem choppy.
A Visual and Auditory Spectacle
The visual style of Fate/Samurai Remnant is a particularly successful mix of 2D illustrations and 3D models to create an atmosphere close to a Japanese anime. The cinematics are of high quality, and the smooth animations make every scene lively and dynamic.
On the sound ambiance side, the Japanese dubbing is excellent, and the OST, composed by Keita Haga and Daisuke Shinoda, offers a variety of melodies, ranging from soothing to electrifying. It brings a real plus to the gaming experience.
